If I Was a Grasshopper

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Is it possible that I could become a grasshopper? If I was to say that I am certain I'll turn into a grasshopper in a minute that would be the deductive reasoning. I could say with certainty because I'm not really sure what could happen in the future; anything could happen. Definition of deduction is the mode of reasoning, that aims to establish conclusions with certainty. If I were to say that it is impossible to turn into a grasshopper because "it never happened before" is the problem of induction; basing everything that happened in the past could or could not happen in the future. This puts a limit on induction and that is you can never be certain. Induction is all based on probability. The formal definition of induction is the mode of reasoning that aims to establish conclusions with probability. This question matters for logic because it is an argument. It is a good example to argue the differences between induction and deduction.
My answer to the question is I think I could not turn into a grasshopper. My premises for this is it is impossible. Grasshoppers are not human. You cannot turn into something you're not. Therefore, I cannot turn into a grass hopper; and a grasshopper cannot turn into me. My answer is completely based on probability and the problem with induction which could lead into infinite regress. I do not know why this is just that it's just because and this would probably be my answer for the coming forth questions. I know a philosopher could argue this down until you get stumbled and change your mind and think maybe it is possible; everything I've presented gives me no real evidence that I cannot turn into a grasshopper and that's the conclusion I've come to learn from this class. You can become a grasshopper because there is no for sure reason that you can't

Presidential candidate?

Hilary Clinton

Well, I wasn't really sure of who I would vote for to be next in the office. I thought about it and realized that Hilary Clinton was running. Figured why not give it a shot, GIRL POWER!! Anyway, did some research on why I wanted to vote for her and my reasons were simple but vague. There would be simply too much to get into detail of what she wants to do once she's in office but here are a few reasons that I liked and they are:
Hilary Clinton is about strengthening the middle class; the middle class is struggling to succeed in today's economy. For her to do this, she has planned: lowering taxes for middle class families, providing quality, affordable health care to every American; having medical care reliable, making college accessible and affordable, confronting the growing problems in the house market, bolstering retirement security by promoting savings and investment.
Hilary Clinton wants to try to create a $50 billion strategic energy fund to jump start research and development of alternative energies to help get us out of the global warming rut, and strengthening unions and ensuring our trade laws work for all Americans, promote energy independence.
The last thing that caught my attention with her is Hilary Clinton wants to stop the war in Iraq by: start phased redeployment, securing stability in Iraq as the troops are brought home, build a stable Iraq by starting a new intensive diplomatic initiative in the region.
Hilary Clinton would be the first woman ever to become president. All in all I think she could do as good of a job as any man; you never know maybe even a better one. Hilary Clinton is my choice for president because at first for me the obvious she is a woman; but after researching her ideas, I have come to believe she could do a really good job with this country.

GOD

Does GOD exist?
Well I always thought that God did exist. I thought he existed primarily because I was raised Catholic and I went to Church twice a week; listening to people try to prove his existence. I guess deep down I do believe there is a God. I try to make myself feel comfortable, knowing that I go somewhere when I die; hopefully all this being nice does me some good in the end. But when I really think about it and analyze with reasons why I think he exists; all I can come up with is that he does.
I'm sure there could be reasons to explain the beginning of man but I like the belief that one man created all this. Science could be the more logical explanation. For me, it's the unexplained that makes it more real for me. My belief is that science cannot come up with something such as the soul. The soul is where you love and where all your emotions come into play but where did that all come from? My quick answer would be I cannot explain it so it must be God. The unconditional love I feel for my children is an act of God. The heartache my sister feels from a failed relationship is an act of God.

There is good and bad in everyone but as the bible says that the good is from God. God and the devil are at battle for your soul. I think that the devil would exist as well because there is evil. If there is good then there is a God. Everything is all worked out to balance everything. There are so many things in this life that is full of beauty and divinity. There are also things in this world that are so evil and condemed that there would be no other explanation that the devil exists. For the devil to exist, God would have to exist as well.
I do believe, to a certain extent, in science. But nothing is fully certain with it. If it was proven that God did not exist and that we all evolved from a single cell then of course everyone's perception would change. As for now, I believe that what is unexplained is the work of God. No one can prove that he does not exist. Just like I cannot prove he does.
With all that being said and a lot of confusion, I can say the bible says God exists. I am a religious person. Religious people believe strongly in the existence of God. Therefore, I believe strongly in the existence of God.

Marijuana legalization?

The legalization of marijuana for recreational use I think should not happen. My reasons behind this is purely for the sake of human anatomy or science. It is known that marijuana kills your brain cells but gives you a euphoric feeling and that could be one of the reasons it is highly used; other than it being addictive. If marijuana is legalized than what would the world be like for a day?

If everyone could get there hands on this drug than maybe the world would shift into madness. All I see is people getting high and not caring about what is going on; which could be the ultimate reason why people get high.If everyone got high, then there would definitely be a shortage of food supply. There would be a decline in I.Q levels. Everything would be chaotic; and the drug dealers would be the one getting paid. Marijuana being used for recreation is not only unethical but stupid. I'm thinking about how many young adolescents who could get hooked on this drug and try to spend the rest of their life as a recovering addict. The high feeling could lead to someone who cannot control their actions and lead to very deep problems.

But then again i could be looking at this all wrong. Marijuana is used to help with health problems today, and maybe could benefit some how in the future. If marijuana is legalized then there could be more jobs for the working man. You never know that maybe there would be less conflicts to be resolved because everyone has other things on their mind. Now, we have alcohol available; it is legal in most states. Where alcohol is legal not everyone is an alcoholic, so if marijuana was legalized then there's a good chance that not everyone would be addicted.

I really cannot say if i am for or against. At least not now, but if maybe the tables turn and it was my own kids or the younger generation in my family doing any form of marijuana I'd have a stronger stand point. But right now it's just up in the air. I could go for or against because the things I presented, I think, make a good argument. And that's pretty much it on that subject.

Homosexuality?

What do I think of homosexuality?
The first thought that comes to my head is I'm okay with it. I do not have a problem simply because I think I have no right to judge anyone; to judge them of their lifestyle or what they do in their bedroom. What people do in their bedroom is their own business. A few people in class disagreed to the thought of homosexuality to be okay. It came to my attention that it seemed to be males; I think that this is because the thought of two gay men shows to not be masculine. I don't think it's their fault either for thinking this way; I think like when said in class that it's the portrayal of homosexuality in the media that gets everyone at unease with the topic; it's just the age and period of our generation. During the Greek periods, the male body was what they portrayed as beautiful and a lot of the men back then were bisexuals; they simply got married for reproduction; the female body, i guess you could say, was the way we see the male body nowadays.
On my part I just think you cannot pick who you love, and personally I think that that is the ultimate reason why someone could be gay or lesbian; it's who they are attracted to. To see my view, take into consideration that I'm a female, most females are hopeless romantics. I know not everyone can see my point of view but it just don't bother me. LIVE AND LET LIVE!!
Switch the situation up. How would it be if someone was giving me trouble for being in a heterosexual relationship? Think about it. A lot of perceptions have changed since the Greek periods.
